They then used their next pick (acquired from the Baltimore Ravens) on Miami University (FL) WR Sinorice Moss. The Giants would post a 4-0 record in the preseason, their first undefeated preseason since 1990, the same season they won Super Bowl XXV. The Giants battled to an 8-8 season in 2006. Unfortunately, inconsistent play, poor playcalling, poor coaching decisions at times, and quarterback inconsistencies hurt the team all season long. The Giants won five consecutive games following a 1-2 start to gain a two game advantage in the NFC Eastern Division, but then key injuries to the offense and defense took its toll. Frustrations with the lack of production and with Head Coach Tom Coughlin also hurt the team as the Giants lost six of seven in the second half the season. The most embarrassing loss was a 24-21 defeat to Tennessee, in which the team surrendered a 21 point fourth quarter advantage. Following a season ending win at Washington, the Giants claimed a Wildcard birth in the NFC playoffs, but were bounced in the first round by Philadelphia. Tiki Barber led the Giants with 1,662 yards and over 2,000 yards from scrimmage again, Eli Manning threw for 3,244 yards and 24 touchdowns and Jeremy Shockey led the team in receptions. Defensively the team struggled all season long with pass defense (28th in the league) and with gaining a consistent pass rush. With the retirement of Tiki Barber and uncertainties surrounding Coughlin, expect many changes before the 2007 campaign unfolds.
