The New York Mets, who are based in Flushing, New York, began playing in1962. Their first season was a disappointment for everyone, when they finished with a below average 40 – 120 record. The year 2000 saw the Mets climb easily into the playoffs, thanks to their National League wild card.  They went on to beat the San Francisco Giants and the Cardinals to take National League pennant.
